A study shared by WEF

(World Economic Forum)

• Landslides cause a lot of problems such as loss of fertile land, infrastructure loss or displacement etc.

Recently, the World Economic Forum shared how Kenya tackles this issue.

• Farmers in Kenya have found an innovative solution to stop landslides.

What is the solution?

• Simple, planting bamboo on dangerous hillsides & riverbanks.

Why so?

• Bamboo grows fast & has a root that can bind the soil together, thus making it more stable to prevent soil erosion.

Economical importance:-

• Due to its quick growth, farmers can harvest them regularly which can act as regular income for farmers due to its fast growth even after harvesting.

BUDGET 2018 India:-

• 2018 India’s Budget, removes bamboo grown outside forest areas from the definition of trees & named as Green Gold to promote the bamboo sector.

Important fact:-

• India has the second-largest reserve of bamboo in the world.
• Imagine if harness efficiently, it can be more economically beneficial for farmers.

भूस्खलन से बहुत सारी समस्याएं पैदा होती हैं जैसे उपजाऊ भूमि का नुकसान, बुनियादी ढांचे का नुकसान या विस्थापन आदि।

• हाल ही में, विश्व आर्थिक मंच ने साझा किया कि केन्या इस मुद्दे से कैसे निपटता है।
• केन्या में किसानों ने भूस्खलन को रोकने के लिए एक अभिनव उपाय खोजा है।

उपाय क्या है?

• खतरनाक पहाड़ी और नदी तट पर सरल, रोपण बांस।

ऐसा क्यों?

• बांस तेजी से बढ़ता है और एक जड़ होता है जो मिट्टी को एक साथ बांध सकता है, इस प्रकार यह मिट्टी के क्षरण को रोकने के लिए और अधिक स्थिर बनाता है।

आर्थिक महत्व: –

• इसकी त्वरित वृद्धि के कारण, किसान इनकी नियमित रूप से कटाई कर सकते हैं जो कि फसल कटाई के बाद भी इसके तेज विकास के कारण किसानों के लिए नियमित आय के रूप में कार्य कर सकते हैं।

भारत का बजट:-

• पेड़ों की परिभाषा से वन क्षेत्रों के बाहर उगे बांस को हटा देता है और बांस क्षेत्र को बढ़ावा देने के  ग्रीन गोल्ड के रूप में नामित किया जाता है।

महत्वपूर्ण तथ्य: –

• भारत में दुनिया में बांस का दूसरा सबसे बड़ा भंडार है।
• कल्पना करें कि यदि कुशलतापूर्वक दोहन किया जाए, तो यह किसानों के लिए आर्थिक रूप से अधिक लाभदायक हो सकता है।
