Topic:- Ethics(Act selflessly)

Sher Singh, a government teacher of Ropar, shows the way to nurture humanity and kindness in society.

  • Sher Singh provides free coaching to the needy youth of Punjab ( especially Ropar) and teaches a real lesson on how to further understanding and compassion in the society.
  • Many of his students, who could not have afforded education, have now got government jobs ( police, army ) etc.

Why Sher Singh’s act gains importance.  It becomes important as it teaches us:

  • Fraternity – as it binds together even the strangers in the society. Fraternity is a glue which connects people of different backgrounds, castes, religion, class etc.
  • Social Capital – ( Trust) within the society could be furthered if small acts of kindness are undertaken by all ( just like Sher Singh).
  • Emotional intelligence – could be inculcated in society ( especially youth).
  • Conflict/violence will reduce as mutual help and empathy can reduce bitterness amongst the people.
  • The conscience of people would get stirred and the culture of ethics would prosper in the society and natt at Large.

Sher Singh’s attitude and act can help our society in tackling various issues of today, such as :

  • Intolerance and discrimination in society.
  • Animal abuse and destruction of the environment.
  • Casteism, Xenophobia, Jingoism.
  • Killings, ransom and torture.
  • Extremism and terrorism.
  • Violence against women and children.
  • Majoritarianism.
  • Corruption. Etc

So, as John Ruskin has said

“The best thing in life aren’t things”.

They are love, compassion, brotherhood, collective celebrations etc.

Question:- What are the Challenges to tackle mind from only profit-oriented towards selflessly working empowerment of others?
