What is the news?

 

  • Himachal Budget: Education gets a highest-ever share of Rs 8,106 cr.
  • A provision of Rs 8,106 crore, the highest-ever, has been made to ensure quality education. Besides, a bunch of schemes have also been announced.

 

Focus area in the Education Sector:-

  • The focus has now shifted to quality education. Being the golden jubilee year of statehood, the government has announced a number of ‘Swaran Jayanti’ schemes.

 

About the ‘Swaran Jayanti Gyanodaya cluster Sreshtha Vidyalaya yojana’:-

  • It will be launched in 100 schools with provisions of improved toilets, electricity, fans, smart classrooms, furniture, library and better water facility. The proper teacher-pupil ratio would also be ensured.

 

What will be the benefits under this Scheme?

  • Under the “Swaran Jayanti super 100’ scheme, 100 top students of Class X would be provided with a financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh each to undergo training to compete in various entrance examinations.

 

Other things in the Education Sector:-

  • For physical fitness, gyms would be opened in medical colleges, engineering colleges and other professional colleges in a phased manner and NCC infrastructure would be expanded by opening battalions and companies so that more cadets could get B and C and NCC certificates, which would help them in getting recruitment in armed and paramilitary forces.
  • The government has also approved filling of 10,700 posts of teacher. The decision has been taken to make an assessment of posts falling vacant in the future and drawn a plan to ensure that teachers are appointed on time and no school remains without a teacher.
  • The period for regularisation of parttime water carriers, converted into daily wages, will be reduced from six to five years while the honorarium of midday meal workers and water carriers would be increased by Rs 300 per month.
