What is the news?

  • The National Fertilizers Ltd (NFL) will establish an NFL chair in Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Agriculture University, Himachal Pradesh (CSKAUHP), at Palampur.

 

Nirlep Singh Rai, CMD of NFL, said:

  • An MoU would be signed with the CSKAUHP tomorrow at Palampur. The NFL will fund research carried out at its farms by scientists of the CSKAUHP.

 

Why important?

It was the first-of-its-kind MoU being signed by the NFL to fund research in an agricultural university.

 

How it will help?

  • MoU with the CSKAUHP with an idea that it would help the company develop various varieties of crops, cropping patterns and other technology related to farming that it can further sell in the market.

 

Prof HK Chaudhary, VC of the CSKAUHP, said:

  • It was common in developed countries that the companies funded research projects in universities.
  • However, it was for the first time in the northern region that a leading public sector undertaking (PSU) would be directly investing in research in a government university.

 

About Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Agriculture University, Himachal Pradesh (CSKAUHP):

  • Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, also known as CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University (CSK HPKV), formerly Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, is an agricultural university at Palampur in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.
  • It was established on 1 November 1978 as an expansion of the existing College of Agriculture established in May 1966. Hill agriculture is the focus of this university. The university is accredited by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).

What is the news?

  • Home Ministry: National IPS Women’s Conference to be held in Shimla on August 21 and 22.
  • This will be the 10th conference in Shimla. Women police officers of the country will share experiences on various issues.

 

Who will conduct?

  • The national level conference will be held in collaboration with the Union Home Ministry Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) and Himachal Police. It will include 250 women constables to DGPs and para-military officers.

 

Background:

  • The first conference was held in 2002. In this, the issue of toilets for women in the police station was raised.
  • After this, the then Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani had released 90 thousand rupees each for each police station.
  • There was talk of appointing women as SHOs in the districts. In Himachal, the first woman SHO was appointed in Solan.

Topic: Apple Orchard Spraying through Drone

What is the news?

  • For the first time, the drug was sprayed by a drone on Saturday in an apple orchard at Anubal in Jubbal tehsil of the Himachal Pradesh Horticulture Department.
  • The spraying was carried out in the presence of horticulture department officials and local gardeners. Narendra Kumar, manager of the IT department, said that while water can be saved by using this technology, the medicine is also used less in comparison to traditional spraying.
  • Drone technology for spraying medicines in gardens has been liked by gardeners.

 

Horticulture Development Officer Dr Kushal Singh Mehta said:

  • A 20-litre capacity drone used to spray liquid manure or pesticides in the gardens can be sprayed in the 10-bigha garden within 10 minutes.

 

GOI initiative:

  • Under the ambitious scheme of the Government of India, the use of modern techniques in horticulture is being promoted.
  • Apart from intensive cultivation of apples and nurseries, this technique of spraying medicines from drones can also prove to be effective in the cultivation of vegetables, tomatoes and flowers. However, gardeners have also given some suggestions to make it suitable for apple cultivation.
  • Such a gun (nozzle) has been sought for drones, so that the drug can be sprayed to the lower leaves of the plant.
    Apart from this, it has also been urged to explore the possibility of using petrol in place of batteries in the drone.

Best Entrepreneurship Award to Landslide Monitoring System.

  • The Startup Landslide Monitoring System (LMS) incubated by IIT Mandi has bagged the third prize under the Best Entrepreneurship Award 2022.
  • The creation of this system is intyot services private limited has done so in collaboration with IIT Mandi.

The start-up has now bagged the third prize under the Chief Minister’s Startup, Innovation Project and Best Entrepreneurship Award 2022 in the New Industry Scheme. The award was presented by Himachal Pradesh Minister for Industry, Transport, Labour and Employment Bikram Singh. Rakesh Kumar Prajapati, IAS Director-Industries, Himachal Pradesh was also present on the occasion.

A total of six best-business startups were awarded for the years 2019-20 and 2020-21.

What is the news?

Three names from Himachal for National Teacher Award.

  • Three teachers have been selected from government schools in Himachal to do better work in the field of education.
  • All these three names have been sent to the Centre.
  • These three teachers can also be selected among the 154 teachers in the selection competition to be held at the national level.
  • They have made a presentation in the education department, in which these teachers have told what are the best jobs they have done in the field of education.

 

Who are these 3 teachers?

  • Yudhvir of Angora School, Chamba, Virendra Kumar of Dhrogra School, Ramesh Chand Sharma of Bhatiyat School from Bilaspur have been selected. The state-level selection committee headed by Principal Secretary Education Manish Garg has finalized the names and sent them to the Centre.

 

How it will be selected?

  • The selection committee constituted by the Government of India will finalise the names of the teachers for the award. There may also be a selection of two or all three in the panel.
  • The department had invited applications from all the teachers of the state for the National Award. 45 teachers had applied to the department. At the same time, the department of elementary education has invited applications for the state-level award by August 10.
  • It will be sorted out from the Deputy Directors of Education and the selected names will be sent to the Directorate.
