What is the news?

  • Hydroponic cultivation introduced to the Himachal.

 

The initiative has taken:

  • The Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University organized a media visit to its hydroponic unit in the research farm of the Department of Vegetable Science and Floriculture today.

 

Why important?

  • Addressing mediapersons, Prof HK Chaudhary, Vice-Chancellor, said the hydroponic farming had been introduced for the first time in the state.
  • He appreciated the efforts of Dr.Desh Raj Chaudhary, Chief, and Dr. Parveen Sharma, Scientist, in Charge of Protected Cultivation, for their excellent work in hydroponics.
  • He said that growing plants in water enriched with nutrients, popularly known as hydroponics, was helpful in hill farming where land holdings were small.

 

What is meant by hydroponic farming?

  • Hydroponics, also called aquaculture, nutriculture, soilless culture, or tank farming, the cultivation of plants in nutrient-enriched water, with or without the mechanical support of an inert medium such as sand, gravel, or perlite.
  • Or simply,Hydroponics is a type of horticulture and a subset of hydroculture which involves growing plants, usually crops, without soil, by using water-based mineral nutrient solutions in aqueous solvents.

What is the news?

  • The IIT-Mandi signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), the nodal agency under the Ministry of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship.

 

Aim:

  • The aim is to set up initiatives which will make it possible to offer effective digital courses to young people, to extend the scope of quality learning and opportunities for practical learning and skills.
  • The collaboration aims to introduce digital courses in emerging technologies such as data science and big data analytics among others.
    New models of training methodology will be jointly created.

How it will work?

  • The NSDC, along with IIT-Mandi, will design and conceptualize the program in line with the training requirements of students and the market, setting up centers of excellence to help develop an entrepreneurial spirit and culture among the youth towards realizing the larger vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat as well as capacity building of teachers, trainers and grassroots leaders.
  • New models of training methodology will be jointly created to make cutting-edge learning opportunities more accessible, leading to enhanced employability. The NSDC will oversee the on-ground implementation of the overall training program and mobilize the candidates, who are keen to avail the training courses being offered by IIT.

1) Smart Teacher Training Center: Himachal’s first smart teacher training center will be built in Solan.

2) Himachal Police has secured first place in the country in issuing a Police Verification Report of Passport. Himachal Pradesh Police Verification Report is being given to people in less than a day in most of the police stations to make passports. Police verification reports for passports have been issued to 41 thousand 542 people in police stations of the state throughout the year. An average of 0.25 of the police verification report has been recorded for the issuance of passports in the Ani and Nirmand police stations in the state.

3) About 50,000 candidates have enrolled themselves in short-term skill training programmes and courses being provided by the Himachal Pradesh Kaushal Vikas Nigam (HPKVN). In all, 4,621 candidates have enrolled in Bachelor of Vocation, a three-year degree programme in collaboration with the department of higher education where training is being provided in retail, tourism and hospitality. In a statement issued on Sunday, the state government said any person who is not enrolled in ITI can join HPKVN-sponsored short-term training in ITIs.
